Sunday Night...

I'm surprisingly calm on a Sunday night. Could be my new toy. Or could be the sudden zen feel I've in me.

2017 has been pretty rough in the beginning, mainly my health. It all started with a health screening. Then everything went downhill. I paid tons and tons of $$$ to find out I'm not too well, but my health is too serious. I was quite worried initially. But it seems like a blessing in disguise. I'm gonna pay more attention to my health for the remaining of 2017!

I stopped running ever since my Gold Coast marathon. I did a 21km in March, but it was a killer. I took almost forever to complete. I've been neglecting my health for work. It's very bad. I'm gonna start running! When I'm back from Japan.

Work is gonna get tougher. So I need to manage both properly! Just gotta learn how to do it. Not gonna give up one for another.

Alright it's time to sleep. Monday blues gonna kick in real soon!

Mac

After a hiatus of using Mac for close to a decade, I've taken the leap of faith again by getting one for work! It's pretty cool. Still trying to adjust to the features.

Anyway, the reason for this post is cos I just wanna type! hehe. Loving the Mac so far! Hope I can get the hang of it.

Mt Rinjani- Checked!

Close friends know that I've been wanting to trek Mt Rinjani for the longest time and I'm so glad I did! It was the toughest trek I've ever done! Not that I did a lot. Just this and Mt Kinabalu. If you think Kinabalu is tough, this is worse. But the view in Rinjani is so much more awesome!!!

So, I've been quite worried about the climb as I know I'm not physically up for it. But I thought, if I don't go now, I'll never go. What luck do I've to find the people who wanna do Rinjani? So my thoughts were just do or die. Fortunately, I didn't die. haha!

I reached Lombok on a Sunday. It was an adventure even before reaching. We were racing to catch our flights! The flight from Singapore to Jakarta via Air Asia was delayed. By right, we had a buffer of 2 hrs to catch our next flight. But with the delay, we were left with only an hr. No idea how we rushed but we were darn lucky to be able to catch our next flight to Lombok!

We reached Lombok at about 11pm, had some light supper and reached our guesthouse only at 2am. The ride to the guesthouse was a highlight. The driver drove at F1 speed and he was dozing off. OMG can you sense our horror? But I was able to sleep like a baby. hehe! I just just too tired! Upon reaching the guesthouse, we showered and slept. However, I kept getting woken up by a stupid rooster who kept going on and on from 3am. Bad night.

Day 1:
We were brought to Semnalun to start our hike. It was non-stop walking for 8hrs to our first camp site. The first third of the hike was okay. Walking on flat ground but we were exposed to the sun. Too hot! And the guide was walking too fast. I was panting and perspiring when we reached our first rest stop, LUNCH.

I was quite amazed by lunch. The porters brought pots and pans, together with lots of food. It was so good! There was even coke! Something I craved for so badly.

Super yummy indo mee with asam soup!
 Lunch for Day3. Spag!

Horror begins after lunch. We were just walking non-stop. The last third was walking up slope nonstop. I wished I had trained even a tiny bit before attempting this hike. For the last part, every 10 steps I took, I had to rest. Can you imagine how slow I was?

I was so glad when we reached our campsite. The sunset was so awesome! Too bad I felt feverish and had to hide in the tent all night after taking panadol. I did have a glimpse of the night sky. So much stars!

Day 2:
We were woken up at 1am for the summit climb. After reading so many blogs on how people fail to make it to the top, I was so adamant on giving up before I start. But I'm so thankful C made me do it! He said things like it's my dream to do it. If I don't, it's never. I've come so far. So wasted to give up. With all the pep talk, of cos I've to at least attempt!

I regretted my choice when we started. Again, the summit climb can be broken down into 3 parts. The first was non-stop climbing up slope. 2nd part was almost flat group, and 3rd part was the notorious torture.

We let the guide and A went first cos they were too fast. We didn't want them to miss the sunrise at the summit. I didn't want C to miss it too but he was too nice to do the hike with me.

After hours of struggle, we finally reached the top!!! The view was magnificent! I was so glad I made it. One item off my bucket list!!!

Going down from the summit is not as easy as it seemed. It was too slippery! I kept slipping and almost falling. Quite tiring to walk. And it got damn hot. I had to remove my 5 layers of clothing. haha!

After a quick breakfast, we embarked on the second half of our arduous journey. Just when I thought horror was over, I was so wrong. After a brief dip with the hot spring, we proceeded to climbing again for about 3hrs. OMG I was already aching like mad and still had to climb. And now, in the dark. I was so whiny and frustrated. I was even angry with the guide for putting us through the torture. By the time we reached the top, it was dark and windy. Nothing to see. And, I was feverish again.

Day 3
Our last day of the hike! I was promised it's gonna be a breeze. As we had to descent fast, we didn't see the sunrise from the crater rim. Wasted. :( We climbed all the way up for the view which we couldn't experience.

The last day was just non-stop hiking down. I fell a couple of times! Nothing serious though. And finally, we've ended our 3D2N hike.

Super appreciative to C & A throughout the hike. I was a huge burden yet they didn't seem to mind.

When I was at Lombok airport, I received a text from a friend telling me that MFA issued a travel advisory to Mt Rinjani!

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/mfa-issues-travel-notice-on-volcanic-activity-in-indonesia/3212178.html?cid=fbcna

Luckily I only saw the text on wed when I'm safely in the airport. If not I might be too scared to go! Yup Mt Rinjani erupted a month a go, and it's still active. What a huge risk I took. By right, we should have more people in our group. But due to the eruption, people pulled out. Lucky us to have 1 guide and 4 porters!

Tips for Rinjani:
1. Train hard!!! I stopped running after my Gold Coast Marathon. That was about 3 months back. I regretted not exercising. Go climb steps! Go Bukit Timah hill! Just do something!
2. Bring lots of wet wipes and tissues! You're not allowed to shower for 3 days. (I'm secretly glad cos I'm a very lazy person). Anyway it's too cold up there to stink. Also, it was slightly messy for me cos of u know, ladies' prob. But all's good. And thankfully no cramps.
3. Good shoes are very impt!!! I wore Timberland, which was supposedly good. But think mine is more of the fashionable go out shopping type of shoes. Get one with a good grip!
4. Go with good company!!! I enjoyed my trip so much cos of C & A! They were hilarious throughout.
5. Don't forget to appreciate nature while going through the torturous journey.

Gold Coast marathon!

It has been 9 months since the start of 2016. How much have I achieved? Sad to say, nothing much. My proudest moment gotta be my 42km! It's not as bad as I thought it'll be. Just gotta keep going and the Aussie crowd made the run so much more bearable.

I admit, I didn't train hard for this marathon. I tried to run every week. But the longest mileage I ran was 14km?

During the actual race, I started off bad. I was already tired. But I managed to pull through, until the 20km mark where I struggled. I walked from 20km-30km, thinking I'll never make it.

But somehow, I managed to have strength to start jogging from the 30km-42km! Yay so glad I did it!!! Milestone achieved!

My rinjani trip might just come true next month. I'm soooooooooooooo excited. My dream since 2011!!! Will it happen? I really hope so! And best is I've got company to do it with me! I don't have to scale the volcano alone!!! How awesome.

38 women's day

Happy international women's day. Thanks to the nonstop posting on social media by commercial/ recruitment company, I'm reminded of how much of a failure I'm as a woman.

Looks- looking hideous each day
Body- FAT
Career- not any high flyer.
Love- what's that??

Oh well. Only thing I look forward to is my daily read of Game of Thrones. Thank god it's so thick. Can last me for at least 6 mths!

2016

Wow it has been almost a year since I last blogged.

2015 has been a very happening year. I travelled at least once every month! The best being 4 in the month of July. Best month of the year!!! Went to Gold Coast, Bali, Penang and Nanking! Had so much fun in the midst of work!

I'm a little apprehensive for 2016. I dunno what to expect. Should I be having more fun??? Or it's time to get serious with life?

But what I know is I want to go to places I've yet to visit!
- North Korea (Have always been curious!) -
- Iceland/ Finland (For northern lights) - Oct??
- Lombok (To climb Mt Rinjani) -  Currently an active volcano. Optional
- Tibet (Just cos it seems exotic) - DUNNO
- London (To watch Arsenal!) -  Maybe early May. If not, then Nov?
- Melb/ Tassie (Just cos I wanna go) - In plans! March!

Guess that will summarize my 2016 plans! Should I start to plan for 2017? Hmm.

Apart from travel plans, I'll wanna do a 42km! It's time to finally do it! I needa do it before I turn 30!

Guess that's about it for 2016!

Tianjin 2015

My first trip of 2015!!! Went to Tianjin in early Jan for work. And I'm in love with that place!!!

The hotel I stayed in was awesome, the people were great, and best, I love the weather!!

My cosy bed at Pan Pacific.
I love hotels for their bathrooms! Pan Pan's bathroom was awesome!

After recruitment and everything else, we had a day to spend. So, we walked around Tianjin's Gu Cheng, or Old Street. It felt like I was in ancient China. Lovely weather to walk around too!

Love the orangey shade of sunset.

After massage which I didn't quite like, we went to Shangri-La for their famous duck. I love the hotel!!! It smelled so good. And the hotel has a great view of the bund! (like the bund in Shanghai).

The streets at night were so beautiful!!!! The buildings are quite European inspired. Imagine walking down the streets in soft shade of warm orange lighting, along the calming river.

I didn't do any of that!!! But our taxi passed by.

Wish I had taken more pictures!! But my camera sucked anyway.

The lousy night shot. haha!!!

I'll wanna go back Tianjin if I've the chance for work!!! For holiday? Maybe! But it'll probably be a stopover before Beijing. Tianjin is just an hr away from Beijing. Heard it's just 30mins by train! How awesome is that.

I can finally fulfil my dream of doing the great wall of china, via Scoot!

Sick, again.

As  mentioned earlier, I've been sick since late Dec. It continues on!

Last Sunday night, I couldn't sleep as I felt feverish. Had to take panadol. Only slowly drifted to sleep after 3am. The next day, I woke up at 530am for work. (Which I totally didn't regret going). Yup, was a bit tempted to not go to work. But it was the day our new plane arrived! How not to go to work.

I felt okay in the morning after panadol. But in the afternoon, I felt feverish again. Popped panadol again! Went to see the doctor after work and got yet another MC.

On Wednesday when I was supposed to go to work, my dad dragged me to see a specialist instead. I'm glad I listened to him cos I've been diagnosed with pneumonia! Any longer I dragged, I might have to be hospitalized.

So, 2 weeks of mc, working from home.

I swear, health will be my MAIN priority. I wanna get well soon!!!

May the year of sheep be a good one for me, the tigress! :)

Since I won't be able to do  Urbanalton, I'm considering sundown! Just thinking...
